you need a new laptop battery.but they are so expensive its not even worth it.just deal with it man. trust me.my laptop battery is shot to ___ and it wont even last no more then 20 mins unplugged.anyway I went to stores to see how much it was buy a new one for this laptop it was 69.00 dollars. Im not going to pay that much for that battery.the reason why it was so much also is because they dont even make this laptop model anymore and it needs like one of a kind battery type with the kind of ports it has.

It is normal as the li-ion laptop battery hold less energy with time and usage.
That is the reason why they only give 1-yr warranty on the Dell inspiron 17r battery

Maybe you were always draining the battery to zero level. It shortens its life.

    B. How to Prolong Lithium-based Batteries
Li-ion should never be discharged too low. On the other hand, Li-ion does not need to be fully charged, nor is it desirable to do so. In fact, it is better not to fully charge, because high voltages stresses the battery. Avoiding full charge has benefits. Choosing a lower voltage threshold, or eliminating the saturation charge altogether, prolongs battery life but this reduces the runtime. Since the consumer market promotes maximum runtime, their chargers go for maximum capacity rather than extended service life.

  5. i have the same laptop. It does the same thing.I had to adjust the setting like dim the lights when it is not plugged in so it lasts longer. But you cant really do anything to make the battery last longer other than that,it just has a small battery life.

laptop batterys have a tendency to drain in power during usage, nothing out of the ordinary here

it sounds like you might need a new battery

  9. The more your laptop heats the more its battery drains.U have been using your laptop for 1 year ,the more times u charge your laptop the lesser its battery life will be.try using power saving options in control panel.

  10. Jenna Nguyen says:

Most of batteries gradually lose their capacity to store energy whether or not you charge them. Over time, it can lose its ability to hold a charge, which affects the accuracy of the battery meter. Batteries last longer if you charge them often, a little at a time, to maintain a minimum charge of about 40 percent capacity.

Ps. You may also consider getting the charger under lifetime warranty. There is some online stores like topmic.com who offer lifetime warranty. Since batteries/ ac adapter won’t last forever, lifetime coverage can surely save your some money.

    Wish the Best.
