Laptop screen dead but pc powers up?

My HP laptop is only 2 years old and it powers up but the screen does not come on, any ideas?

  1. I had that happen to me, thankfully within warranty. The processor died. Expensive fix and they have to wipe your system.

Hopefully it’s what the person before me said. Get a laptop cooling pad, HP’s heat up quick.

maybe its overheated, leave it off for a few hours and try again, if nothing happens then you might have to contact HP and see if they can fix it, but after 2 years they’re probably going to charge you a fortune! So id recomend just buying a new laptop.

  3. Laptop screen backlight needs replacement. See this guide for how to:

  4. If you have a suitable lead, you could try to see if it’s working by connecting it to an external monitor. There is a switch which you should try, it looks like two screens and is used for switching between an extgernal monitor and it’s own. maybe you’ve accidently switched it?
The other thing you can try is to look at it very carefully, maybe shine a torch at the screen. You’re trying to spot even the faintest outline of windows. If so, then it’s most likely that the internal screen lamp has gone. They’re cheap to replace.

  5. does it bleep at all when you boot it, if it does this is a code which tells you where the fault lies, it will be long and short bleeps, the manufactures site will interpret these for you. does it respond when you put a windows disc in it? does pressing f1 or f8 have any effect?

Try following method to get rid of Black screen problem.
    1) TAKE OUT YOUR LAPTOP BATTERY
    2) REMOVE YOUR AC ADAPTOR CORD, that’s the wall power, remove it.
    3) NOW HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON FOR 30 SECONDS

That will drain any static electricity that has built up on your laptop system board and many times fixes the problem of a black screen. After the 30 seconds re-connect your laptop to the wall power and hit the power button normally and see if the laptop comes back up.
