Dell Inspiron 1501 battery problem?

Hello all, I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 and I bought this from the markets for about £150. I charged it for an hour or more. And then I fond out that the battery power gets drained in like 5 minutes or less. Its very annoying as I lose work sometimes and the charger gets too hot and is very dangerous. I have spoke to Dell and told them the issue and they are not very helpful as they haven’t extended the warranty of mine or they haven’t given me any advice. The previous owners details haven’t been changed on the Dell company to mine and now Im stuck as I cant pay £95 for a battery.

  1. Hi Mo,

Please follow the below steps to troubleshoot the issue:
    1. The first step which I would recommend is to remove the power cable and the battery. Hold the power button down for 15-20 seconds and then put the battery and the adapter back in and start the computer. Check if it works.
    2. Please check the jack on the AC Adapter for any damage.
    3. Charge the battery with the laptop turned off.
    4. Try with a good known AC Adapter.

If the issue still persists, check the status of AC adapter. Restart the computer and the moment it powers on start tapping the F2 key to boot the computer to BIOS where you would be able to find AC Adapter Type under : Main Menu, Let me know the status (None, Unknown or Shows the power).
If AC adapter Status in BIOS is Unknown/Not Detected. Update the BIOS from Dell’s support site. Use the link below:

Once you are on this website, insert system Service Tag and choose Operating System. Select BIOS and update it.

Plug your computer to a good, working UPS before you update the BIOS. If you experience a loss of AC power or a significant voltage sag/spike during the BIOS flash, you will either have to buy a new BIOS chip or buy a new motherboard.

You can also refer to the link for AC Adapter and Battery issue:

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks and Regrads
