DC power jack repair on laptop?

Is there anywhere in the UK I can send my laptop off to get the DC jack replaced? (the bit on the laptop where you plug in the charger) also, somewhere cheap!!

  1. Jenna Nguyen says:

Before spending money on professional laptop DC power jack repair, try following simple fixes to see if the problem goes away.

Remove the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord from your laptop, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to discharge any residual current inside the laptop. This clears your RAM and is like a hardware reset. Replace the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord and turn your laptop on.

If the problem persists, did you check if it could be your laptop power cord or power source problem? Insufficient power might cause error messages that are misleading. Take the battery out and power on your laptop with the charger only. Make sure your laptop power jack and charger plug tip are securely connected. Did you notice the power jack loose? You can find laptop power jack on ebay. Fixing and soldering the power jack requires professional skill though. Also the charger green/blue LED should be on. If not, replace the defective charger. laptop charger has its own lifespan and does not last forever, consider buying a lifetime warranty charger online from company like topmic.com

  2. I know what you are saying but even in american it’s not cheap to replace , takes a low wattage soldering gun with a fine tip on it to replace it and some experience is why it’s a little high to replace.

  3. Last one I had was totally knackered when this packed up and uneconomical to repair so got it replaced under the Guarantee. The labour costs for stripping it down and rebuilding could be the biggest problem and the adapter is normally on the motherboard I believe.

  4. This is usually an expensive repair.
When my grandson needed it doing, the quote was so expensive that he bought a new laptop.

  5. Have you tried using another charger? If you need a professional to take a look at your laptop I recommend Complex Systems Direct, they are based in Gloucestershire but they make fixing laptops really easy, even if you don’t live in the Gloucestershire area.
    Good luck!
