    Acer systems ship with eRecovery Managr, which facilitates the creation of Recovery media (CDs or DVDs) so the system may be restored to the original load in the event of unrecoverable issues.

    How to Make Recovery Media

    1. Click on Start, then All Programs, then Acer Empowering Technology.
    2. Click on Acer eRecovery Management.
    3. If prompted to create a password, create a password and hint.
    Do not lose this password.
    If asked for a password, enter the previously set password.
    4. When the Acer eRecovery Management loads, click the button labeled Burn Disc.
    5. Click Create Factory default disc.
    6. Follow the instructions and put in the required Blank DVD or Blank CD media to make a set of Recovery Media Discs.

    How to Recover your system from within Windows

    1. Click on Start, then All Programs, then Acer Empowering Technology.

    How to recovery your system from bootup

    1. Locate the Alt key, to the left of the space bar, and F10, on the top row of keys.
    2. Power the system on.
    3. When the system is powered on, tap the Alt and F10 keys together at the same time when the Acer splash screen appears.
    It should state "Please wait a moment…" with the Acer logo in the upper left hand corner.
    4. At the eRecovery Management menu it will ask you how to restore.
    5. Click on the restore option you would like to use.

    Do you have the original recovery cd that came with the laptop? Why are you trying to restore factory settings?

    Depends on if you’ve added any hardware…

    and is it just the Hard Drive you need to format or do you want to reset the hardware settings in the BIOS?

    The quickest and easiest way is if you still have the original setup disks that came with the laptop. Boot to the System CD and one of the options will be to reformat the HD and setup the BIOS and Operating system back to the default settings.
